Recent results from the National Student Satisfaction Survey (NSS) have placed University Centre South Devon (UCSD) as the best performing higher education provider in the South West with a 92% overall satisfaction rate. The highest percentage achieved of all the universities and higher education providers in the region.
The national average of overall student satisfaction has dropped 1% from last year’s survey whereas the overall satisfaction has risen for UCSD from last year’s 84%, bucking the national trend.
The NSS allows undergraduate students to provide honest feedback relating to their learning experience and gives them a collective voice to help shape the future of their course and higher education provider.
Participants complete a questionnaire relating to areas such as teaching, academic support and personal development. The survey revealed that 94% of students at UCSD were satisfied with the teaching on their course compared to 85% sector-wide, 92% of UCSD students were satisfied with the learning resources compared to 84% sector-wide and 91% of students at UCSD were satisfied with the academic support compared to 80% sector-wide.
The results complement the recent Gold rating awarded by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) which commended UCSD for its strong student engagement and for recognising that the student voice is critical and is considered during the early stages in the delivery of modules. It highlighted the excellent employability support on offer to students, with focus on ensuring that all students achieve positive outcomes post study. The report also praised UCSD for its excellent educational culture, ensuring that staff have development opportunities to support them in delivering excellent higher education teaching.
All of the degrees at UCSD are delivered in partnership with Plymouth University, including a range of both foundation degrees and full honours bachelor’s degrees in various specialisms, leading to fantastic employment opportunities in the South West and beyond. This includes a range of higher and degree apprenticeships which combine on-the-job training while studying towards a high level qualification. The curriculum is developed with employers to ensure individuals develop relevant skills for the local market.
The continued growth of the provision is testament to UCSD’s status as a leading provider of higher education study in the South West. UCSD is continuously developing and improving new and existing courses and pathways to jobs at all levels with even more possibilities for the future as it hopes to secure foundation degree awarding powers.
