  • BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering degree secures full approval for delivery in September 2017

Home » News » College News » BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering degree secures full approval for delivery in September 2017

16th May 2017

University Centre South Devon is excited to announce the BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering as the latest full honours degree to be approved by Plymouth University, with delivery starting in September 2017.

The BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering degree is designed as a top-up for civil engineering technicians currently holding a Level 5 qualification i.e. a foundation degree. The qualification can be taken either full-time or part-time.

Part-time students can achieve the qualification by studying 1 day a week over 2 academic years. The programme provides the perfect opportunity for employers to upskill their workforce and for employees to achieve an honours degree whilst studying part-time.

The approved full honours degree will provide students studying at University Centre South Devon with a clear progression route from the HNC Civil and Coastal Engineering to the foundation degree FdSc Civil and Coastal Engineering and now to the BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering.

The provision of this pathway for civil engineers studying at University Centre South Devon is significant. Whilst there remains in industry a shortfall of qualified civil engineers, by providing three clear higher level civil engineering qualifications using flexible delivery and working closely with local employers, University Centre South Devon can offer a solution to plugging the skills gap.

The University Centre continues to develop the courses and pathways on offer to the community it serves, with even more possibilities for the future as it hopes to secure foundation degree awarding powers.

For those without the relevant qualifications or experience, University Centre South Devon offer a range of programmes that can prepare individuals for university level study, such as an Access to Higher Education course.

Places are still available to start this September. To find out more you can call the Higher Education team on 08000 21 31 81 or email [email protected]

Alternatively, come along to our Open Evening on Wednesday 17th May 2017 from 5pm – 8pm at our Vantage Point Campus, Long Road, Paignton, TQ4 7EJ. Please visit sdcdev to register your attendance.
