6th March 2017

The 3rd Devon Convergence ‘Doing it Ourselves: Forum for a New Local Economy’ was held at the South West Energy Centre on Saturday 4th March. The conference was organised by Totnes Transition, who are building a regional movement of people who want a sustainable, fair, and resilient economy.

The day included presentations and workshops with opportunity for people to connect and explore new areas of interest.

Key note speaker Fernanda Balata, from the New Economics Foundation, provided insight of special relevance for Torbay and other Devon coastal communities. Her participation offered a valuable opportunity for local organisers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers.

Workshop sessions covered an array of subjects including:

  • Social and community enterprise
  • Community supported entrepreneurship & investing
  • ‘Flat Pack Democracy’
  • Community energy
  • Community exchange
  • Housing – self build, CLT, and green
  • Devolution – what is it and why you should care?
