  • Green Light Unplugged: New project aims to showcase local talent and raise awareness for MacMillan Cancer Support

Home » News » College News » Green Light Unplugged: New project aims to showcase local talent and raise awareness for MacMillan Cancer Support

26th September 2016

South Devon College are working with the Green Light Unplugged project to showcase original, local talent and raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, Devon.

There will be some fabulous new acts all playing original songs including, Peter Faloon, Phil Bell, Anna Hamill, Reo Gee, Wez Richmond, Hayley Brown and Laura Faye.

As well as providing wonderful entertainment, the artists are expected to video their performance and upload it on to the Green Light Unplugged website to enter a competition to be recorded for the ‘Coffee and Songs for Macmillan’ album.

Janet Ventre, the Green Light Unplugged project manager, said: “From September 1 until December 18 we are inviting local acoustic performers to showcase their original songs at ‘unplugged’ gigs in local cafes, bars and other venues in the South Devon area, thereby promoting local businesses.

“If the artists then want to go further and enter the competition to be recorded for the ‘Coffee & Songs for Macmillan’ album, they can video their performances at the gig and upload them to the Green Light Unplugged website, for a suggested donation of just £3 per track.”

Competition entries will be judged by a panel of experienced music industry professionals.

Ten selected artists will be invited to record their songs for the album at South Devon College, and to perform their songs live at a special showcase event and album launch in April 2017.

Students from South Devon College will be working alongside the artists during the recording process to gain valuable work experience.

All of the proceeds from the gigs and the album sales will be going to Macmillan Cancer Support to help people affected by cancer in Devon.

The first Green Light Unplugged Event will be taking place at DTs in Belgrave Road, Torquay on Tuesday 4th October at 7pm.

Look out for more exciting Green Light Unplugged gigs coming up very soon.
