South Devon College students have cause for celebration after collecting their A Level results today. The students worked very hard to achieve an exceptional 99% overall pass rate. There were numerous success stories throughout the College as students excelled over a range of subjects, the majority earning high A*- C grades. After the anxious wait, students can now look forward to beginning the next stage of their career, with their A Level results forming the foundation for further success and a gateway to Higher Education.

Mark Luscombe (18, from Paignton)

Mark achieved brilliant results, gaining A*CC in Sociology, Geography and Government and Politics. Mark is going on to study Politics and International Relations at Reading University. Mark said, “I am so thrilled to have achieved an A* at A Level! South Devon College has helped me pursue a career in politics and I’ve really enjoyed my time here”.

 Sophie Burgess (18, from Brixham)

Sophie is progressing to study History at Cardiff University, having achieved BBC in History, Media and Psychology. Sophie said, “South Devon College has prepared me for university through independent study. The hard work I have put in has really paid off and I feel confident to be making the jump to university thanks to the support I received at the College”.

Emma Poole (18, from Paignton)

Emma Poole, aged 18 from Paignton, this morning received ABB in her Government and Politics, History and English Literature A Levels. Emma told us, “I am so excited that all of my hard work has paid off. That and the support of my tutors means I can now follow my dream of going to University in Birmingham to study History and Political Science. I’d like to be a politician one day!”

 

Matt Parsons (19, from Brixham)

Matt Parsons, 19 and from Brixham was delighted to achieve what he set out to do and has his sights set on a career in the Royal Navy. Matt said, “I’ve just received my A Level results at South Devon College and I’m really happy to have achieved the grades I was predicted. My next steps are to apply for the Royal Navy and go into officer training. I chose to study my A Levels at South Devon College because it was recommended to me by several friends and I’d heard it was a very good place to study”.

Annabelle Gillard (18, from Brixham) 

                                                                                                     

Annabelle Gillard, 18 and from Brixham also achieved high grades this morning, gaining ABBC at A Level in Creative Writing, Extended Project, English Literature and Religious Studies. When asked about her future Annabelle said “My A Levels have helped me to feel confident in my ability and about my future. I have chosen to study Youth Work and Community at the University of St Mark and St Johns and I am excited to start there in September.’

 

James Smith (18, from Brixham)

18 year old James Smith from Brixham achieved higher than his predicted grades today with CDD at A-Level in Sociology, English Language and Philosophy. James told us about his future “I have an apprenticeship in IT lined up with a local company. I’m excited to start my new job as I think it will be a fun and different way to learn and progress into my chosen career.”

Principal of South Devon College, Stephen Criddle said, “Congratulations to all students who have put in a huge amount of work this year and who are progressing in their chosen directions including to higher education or great local apprenticeships. We are delighted for them.”

 

For those interested in opportunities in further and higher education, the College’s award-winning Helpzone team are on hand to offer advice and guidance to the public, with an expert team in place to assist with university progression. The ‘clearing’ process has now opened across the country, where unallocated university places are matched to students without one, and the College has a dedicated clearing hotline on 08000 21 31 81.
