South Devon College has been recognised in the top 3 Colleges in the country in the latest annual FE Choices learner satisfaction survey. The survey is run nationally and is an opportunity for existing students to rate their learning or training experiences.
The survey asks key questions relating to the student experience, including teaching, learning and assessment. 94% of the students said yes when asked if they would recommend the College to a friend or relative. Students also had the opportunity to make overall comments – one student said, “The College has great facilities and a brilliant campus, a welcoming atmosphere and excellent opportunities for work experience.”
South Devon College attained high scores across the survey; 94% of students felt they were treated fairly. One participant said, “We have the freedom to work independently and are treated like adults.” Further to this 93% of students agreed that South Devon College provides a safe and welcoming environment to learn.
This national survey is designed to provide information on how Further Education Colleges and organisations support the student’s learning experience. It provides vital information to prospective students and their advisers to help them to make an informed choice about education and training.
Success in the FE Choices Survey complements the recent results of the Higher Education Student Perception Questionnaire (SPQ) run through Plymouth University. The overall satisfaction result for South Devon College was 93.8%, the highest of all Colleges who deliver with Plymouth University, and the highest of any School within the University. The highest score in the survey was 98% for enthusiasm of lecturers, for which a student commented, “The enthusiasm of the lecturers helps to make the topics interesting and engaging.”
As well as coming to South Devon College from age 16, Students can start their learning journey at the age of 14 with South Devon College. South Devon High School (part of South Devon College) is committed to giving young people the best chance to succeed by combining academic and technical qualifications. Students study a broad curriculum of core subjects, in line with statutory requirements, which cover a diverse range of sectors. One student said, “Coming to South Devon High School has proved to be the best option for me. I’m shown respect and I’m treated like a young adult. It has been great overall.” Some students are already thinking of their options for when they leave school and many have shown a desire to progress with both further and higher education at the College.
