Launched in 2011, the awards have grown year on year and are now a hugely celebrated and special event for staff and students. The awards are an opportunity for students to say thank you to their lecturers, support staff and course representatives for all of their hard work and support. A range of categories for nominations included ‘Best Student Led Campaign’ and ‘Outstanding Personal Tutor’. A student committee decided on the winners for each award.

Working in partnership with Plymouth University, South Devon College course representatives and staff members were included among the nominations for both faculty and university wide awards.

From the nominations, South Devon College celebrated 3 award wins in total.

Stuart Collier, Animal Care Lecturer won 2 awards at the ceremony and was also the only representative from any of the partner colleges to win a University Wide award. The categories were:

•              Excellence in Championing Career Development – University Wide. Employability is a major concern for students and this award recognises staff that go above and beyond to provide opportunities or information that will make their students more employable.

•              Most Dedicated Dissertation/Project Supervisor – Faculty Winner. This award is for a Project or Dissertation Tutor who has provided unparalleled support during the project period.

Congratulations go to Sam Fox (FdA Early Years Care & Education) who won the following award:

•              Course Rep of the Year – Faculty Winner. This esteemed award is one of three categories awarded to course representatives to celebrate their outstanding work over the academic year. The role is voluntary and is testament to the commitment of the students who are willing to represent their peers.

The award ceremony demonstrates the excellent working relationship between staff and students at the University Centre, South Devon College. The continued support, reassurance and encouragement from staff members helps to enrich a student’s experience during their time in Higher Education and the SSTAR awards play an important role in honouring this.

Congratulations to all of the winners!
