South Devon College are proud to be hosting a range of fun, hands-on one-day ‘Tech Tasters’. These taster days aim to introduce participants to exciting technical concepts and fun practical skills; sparking interest and confidence to pursue further learning.

The Tech Tasters are being delivered as part of the Digital Momentum programme; a Heart of the South West Digital Skills Partnership pilot programme funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Digital Skills Innovation Fund.

Information about the workshops taking place can be found below –

30/03/2020 Introduction to Robotics The session will introduce learners to some of the key concepts of robotics and mechatronics, including usage, functionality and future developments.


31/03/2020 Introduction to Games Design This session is for anybody wishing to gain an insight into the techniques and applications of games design technologies. Including mobile and desktop platforms.


01/04/2020 Introduction to Data Science and Machine Learning This session will introduce learners to the possibilities and opportunities presented by big data and machine learning. Allowing individuals to gain a competitive edge through use of technology.


02/04/2020 Introduction to Coding In introduction to coding principles and computational thinking. With introductions to languages such as Python, C++ and JavaScript.


03/04/2020 Introduction to 3D Design and Printing This session will introduce learners to some of the techniques, fundamentals and limitations of producing 3D printed designs. From software to physical product.



To be eligible to join a Tech Taster workshop, participants must be:

Female and living in Somerset, Devon, Torbay or Plymouth


Resident in a ward which falls into the bottom 20% most deprived wards* within Somerset, Devon, Torbay or Plymouth

(*as defined by the Index for Multiple Deprivation 2015) See the list of eligible wards of residency here. Please note this eligibility criteria is only specific to participants who are not female.
