If you have an item of furniture that you would like to renovate and you have a practical nature then this course will be suitable for you. Items may include something you already have at home or that you may find at auction, or in second-hand shops, on the internet or even at the local tip! If you have not done anything in this subject before you are advised to choose a project that is simple to begin with. If you are unsure what qualifies as ‘simple’ please contact the office for advice. This is a hands-on course for beginners and improvers. No previous experience is necessary, but physical mobility in the hands and arms is essential. The course content is flexible and dependent on the choice of your project. A wide range of practical skills can be catered for including upholstery; polishing; caning; wood preparation and minor repairs; veneering; gilding; and shabby chic techniques. The items of furniture you choose to work on can be modern, antique, or recycled.

"Having progressed from a Level 3 course in Games and Interactive Media at South Devon College, I knew that there were excellent facilities and levels of support. The fact that UCSD is local also meant I would save money by staying at home, which was really beneficial. The support of the tutors has helped me transition into university-level study, which has been very positive. I contributed to an employment and research scholarship, where we secured an Oculus Rift display, which I'll be using to simulate and test some of the 3D spaces I've created. When I complete my studies at UCSD I will go on to complete a top-up year, before entering employment. At the moment I'm planning on working as either a graphic designer or in 3D modelling using the skills I've learnt during my studies."Jack Gladman
