Supporting Teaching and Learning Certificate Level 2
The objective of this course is to equip you with the essential knowledge and skills necessary for working with children and young people in educational settings, such as schools or colleges.
The curriculum encompasses a broad spectrum of topics, including children and young people’s development, promoting positive behaviour and communication, and cultivating professional relationships.
As part of the course, you will either work in a school or college or undertake a work placement (ideally two days per week) in a school or college, allowing you to gain practical experience and demonstrate your competencies to meet the unit requirements. You will be evaluated based on your coursework, which includes projects, typed work, and portfolios.
This course is an online course. Students are invited onto campus for key dates throughout the programme for in person workshops to build practical skills for the classroom, otherwise the course is accessed at the students pace via our online classroom.
Upon successful completion of this course, there is an approved progression route to Foundation Degrees here at South Devon University Centre – part of South Devon College. Visit www.ucsd.ac.uk or email [email protected] for more information.

I have been really happy with the Level 4 Learning and Skills Mentor apprenticeship. The monthly lessons, led by Leigh, are well thought out and engaging. We receive excellent resources and have ample opportunities to practice our techniques during the lessons. Allowing for group collaboration and sharing of experiences. The feedback and one-on-one sessions I have received are informative, knowledgeable, and helpful, enabling me to develop my skills further. Since starting this apprenticeship, I have gained valuable knowledge in questioning and listening techniques, which I have already begun to apply in my role as an Assessor Coach. Throughout the program, I have felt fully supported. I cannot recommend this course enough for anyone either new to mentoring or looking to develop their communication and support skills. This apprenticeship has provided me with the tools and confidence needed to excel in mentoring and support roles, making a real difference in my professional capabilities.Jenny Goodman
