Introduction to Psychology, Criminology and Counselling Level 2
This course will introduce you to the social sciences and counselling skills. You are able to choose from a combination of Psychology, Criminology and Counselling or all three.
In Psychology you will study human behaviour and mental processes enabling you to gain an understanding of why humans behave in the way that they do. You will learn how human behaviour occurs in a social context, how the human brain processes information, and how behaviour is learned from the world around us.
Criminology is the scientific study of offending behaviour and why individuals turn to crime. You will consider the diferences between crime and deviance. Criminology looks at how criminals are dealt with and punished and types of crime and how crime can be prevented.
In Counselling you will gain an understanding of different theories and approaches. It will also help you to increase your own self-awareness and equip you with better communication skills. The Counselling Skills Certificate is aimed to introduce you to the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work and some of the approaches that underpin the use of these skills.
Students who study Psychology, Criminology and Counselling can progress onto careers working in mental health, psychology, counselling, youth work, family support work, rehabilitation and recovery, well-being roles, advice and guidance and many more.
Following the completion of this course, there are many other routes for progression within the college should you wish to further your studies.

"I will really miss my college days and from the beginning the tutor, Al, has been so supportive. From someone who has not completed anything academic in over 20 years, this course was a step in the right direction for me. I have learnt so much from the group of people, different organisations, but mostly from Al who has a wealth of HR knowledge. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Al and she will always go out of her way to support and guide you in the right direction". Kelly Gidley – Temporary Staffing Team Manager, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust
