South Devon College charity launches “One step at a time challenge” to help our students in need
Our own charity, Friends of South Devon College students, has launched an exciting new initiative to help those students in need here at the college. It is open to all students and staff to sign up, get active and sponsored to help raise vital funds so the charity can continue to help students facing a time of crisis.
We know that the college provides a fantastic education to give students the best start in life, but some students face massive challenges like being made homeless, or problems with mental health. Our PI team is the place to go when in need and it is supported by “Friends” to provide a range of help so students can continue through difficult situations and carry on their studies.
The charity has been active throughout Covid, stepping in to provide vital support like emergency funding, travel passes and mental health counselling, but have been unable to properly fundraise over the last 18months and now need your support. Sign up today to do the One Step at a Time Challenge, on the website www.friendssdcs.co.uk/one-step-at-a-time/
You can do it on your own, as a class or with a team of friends, or in relay. You can take your time too – you could choose to do a small chunk each week. The idea is to walk, run, cycle or swim 36 miles or 72,000 steps, which is the distance around all 10 South Devon College campuses.
It is good to get active and will improve fitness and mental wellbeing, but most of all you will be helping a fellow student in need. You can find more information about our charity here www.friendssdcs.co.uk
Let’s all get behind this and make an amazing difference!
