The COVID-19 pandemic is certainly highlighting the jobs and the people that are pillars of our community and generating much greater appreciation for the work they have been doing and continue to do as the situation carries on.
But there are also people going above and beyond to support the community and help those that need it most.
Six South Devon College second year Level 3 Health and Social Care students have paid employment as health care assistants and support workers in the social care sector.
They are working extra shifts and long hours as many of their colleagues are ill or self-isolating. They’re working in residential care homes for the elderly, going into people’s homes to provide care, and also supporting adults with learning and physical disabilities.
The students going the extra mile for our community are Chloe Carter, Sarah Green, Emily Johnston, Harriet Powell, Jess Ruston and Emily Summers.
They are all due to finish their courses this year which is good news because this kind of initiative and selfless care for others makes them perfect in this sector. Along with the College, the community of South Devon are so proud of what they are doing and are eternally thankful for everything they will continue to do beyond the current circumstances.
