With over 7,000 students currently registered on our books it’s no mean feat, yet here at South Devon College we’re always keen to keep in contact with students past or present who have walked through our doors. No matter when, or for how long they studied – we find the time to ‘catch up’ and have a chat about their experiences.
Recently we kindly asked former A Level student Eleanor Roberts for a few moments out of her busy schedule to hear what she’s been up to.
Eleanor’s passion is for pursuing a career in law. Started from initially studying on the Legal Secretary Course at the College, Eleanor has made rapid progress towards achieving her aspirations. Whilst studying the course Eleanor gained work experience with Boyce Hatton Solicitors in Torquay who have been widely impressed with her dedicated and committed approach.
After undergoing an apprenticeship with the firm, Eleanor will soon start her new role of Legal Secretary, with Boyce Hatton pleased to provide her with the necessary training to one day become a qualified Paralegal.
A beaming Eleanor said, “My experience studying on the Legal Secretary course at the College was great. I found the teachers to be very supportive and I always came away from each day feeling happy and that I had really learned something new. The structure of the classes were engaging, we’d often learn in groups and hold practical exercises before heading back to the computer to individually build upon what we had just been taught.
Studying at the College provided the preparation for me going into my new job role as a Legal Secretary. Working towards my long term goal of one day becoming a qualified Paralegal/Solicitor, I plan to return to the College in the future to enrol on a CILEx Chartered Legal Executive Apprenticeship course.
As well as the support from my employer Boyce Hatton, I will always be grateful to the College. I think of my time studying here as the gateway towards moving on to bigger and better things, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the College”.
Partner at Boyce Hatton Solicitors, Kate Barton adds “We have been thrilled with Eleanor’s progression in becoming a real asset to both the team and the firm. To join as an apprentice is often challenging, working for two partners across a busy law firm, yet Eleanor has far exceeded our expectations and also settled in really well with everyone. It’s due to her hard work that we’re delighted to nominate Eleanor for an award at the next Devon and Somerset Law Society Awards, for Support Team Member of the Year”.
Eleanor is just one of the many students who go on to achieve great things after leaving the College.
