Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (Online) Level 2
This course will introduce you to the impact adverse childhood experiences have on children’s holistic development, health and wellbeing. So many children within our society today are living through adverse childhood experiences, the impact of such experiences can be felt well into adulthood.
It is critical that children and young people who have had these experiences, receive intervention and support through trauma informed practice in order to meet their individual needs. If you are supporting or caring for children and young people impacted by adverse childhood experiences, knowledge gained through this course will empower you to develop strategies to improve outcomes for children.
Students are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units.
Exploring Childhood and Family Structures: In this unit students will begin to explore the development of children and young people and different perspectives on childhood. The unit will also cover the role of the family and different family structures.
Introduction to adverse childhood experiences: This unit introduces students to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and potential outcomes for children impacted by ACEs. The unit also covers the role of the practitioner in supporting children.
Understanding strategies to improve outcomes for children affected by adverse childhood experiences: In this unit students will consider the role of the practitioner in supporting children impacted by adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) using strategies to develop resilience and improve outcomes.

I’ve recently completed my Level 5 HR Consultant Partner Apprenticeship at South Devon College and have enjoyed every minute! South Devon College has provided me with the tools and resources I needed to complete the course. My tutor and colleagues were extremely supportive and created an open environment to encourage participation and the sharing of ideas! Doing an apprenticeship has allowed me to apply knowledge that I’ve learnt during the course into real life situations. The end point assessment project has enabled me to showcase my new skills by designing a solution to a business need. Amy Law – HR Advisor, Core Highways
