FdA Education and Childhood Level 5
The FdA Education and Childhood incorporates education curriculum spanning the ages from 0 – 18 years, with additional modules focusing on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
This unique programme will comprise elements of early years provision as well as primary, secondary, and special provision. The FdA Education and Childhood will be taught by our expert academic staff team, who are ideally placed in the development of each of the individual modules offered within the curriculum.
On completion of the foundation degree, you can progress onto the top-up BA (Hons) Childhood and Youth Studies.
Please note, this course does not provide students with an Early Years Workforce license to practice and if you wish to progress into a teaching career, you will need GCSE Maths, English and at least one science at grade 4/C or above.
Course Details
- We will consider a variety of qualifications and relevant experience and each application is assessed on its own merit.
Each module is worth a specified number of credits: you take a combination of compulsory modules enabling you to cover key subject knowledge while developing your own interests. For full time students a total of 120 credits will be studied in each academic year. In the majority of cases this will consist of 6 modules. For part time students a maximum of 80 credits will be achieve each academic year.

I’ve recently completed my Level 5 HR Consultant Partner Apprenticeship at South Devon College and have enjoyed every minute! South Devon College has provided me with the tools and resources I needed to complete the course. My tutor and colleagues were extremely supportive and created an open environment to encourage participation and the sharing of ideas! Doing an apprenticeship has allowed me to apply knowledge that I’ve learnt during the course into real life situations.
