FdSc Psychology and Criminology

FdSc Psychology and Criminology

If you're curious about why people commit crimes and how society responds, the FdSc Psychology and Criminology at University Centre South Devon offers a powerful foundation for exploring both the mind and the justice system. This course combines two fascinating disciplines to help you understand criminal behaviour, psychological theory, and the wider social context of crime.

You will study a broad range of subjects including criminology, criminal psychology, criminal law, and the workings of the criminal justice system. You'll explore the root causes of crime, how it can be detected and prevented, and how offenders are managed within society. This interdisciplinary approach gives you a well-rounded understanding of both individual and societal influences on behaviour.

In psychology, you will explore:

Mental illness and psychological treatments

Social influence and behaviour in conflict situations

Personality testing and behavioural prediction

Psychological drivers of crime and rehabilitation

Gender development and memory across the lifespan

Positive psychology and factors linked to wellbeing

This course prepares you for a wide range of career pathways, including roles in criminal justice, youth work, mental health services, rehabilitation, and research. You’ll also develop vital academic and research skills to help you become a reflective, independent thinker ready to take on the challenges of a complex and fast-evolving field.

The course is available full-time or part-time with a September start, and includes progression opportunities to top-up degrees at University Centre South Devon, including BSc (Hons) Social and Therapeutic Interventions.
