As the 15th-largest university in the UK, Plymouth is one of the leading modern universities. It is ranked in the top four institutions in the country and 37th internationally under the age of 50 by Times Higher Education.

The University has one of the highest number of National Teaching Fellows of any UK university (20 National Teaching Fellowships in Higher Education since 2000), is ranked 19th in the UK and in the top 100 globally for research quality (2015 CWTS Leiden Rankings), with two-thirds of its research ranked as world-leading or internationally excellent (2014 Research Excellence Framework). It was also the first university in the world to receive the Social Enterprise Mark.

Its 27,000 students, which include those at its partner colleges across the South West, are enrolled on courses from farming to fine art, business to biology, and design to dentistry. The University has invested more than £150 million in its campus and is the first modern university to have launched a medical school. The University plays a key role within the South West’s economy and through its £100 million network of support facilities and services, is growing and supporting hundreds of businesses across
the region and beyond. Please visit the University website to find out how Plymouth is making a difference.

UCSD is a member of the University’s partner college network, bringing university-level courses to students across the South West. The partnership works closely with employers to develop degrees and other higher-level qualifications designed to increase student employment and career progression prospects.

We offer Higher Education courses awarded by University of Plymouth. Our Foundation Degrees usually have at least one built-in progression route to an Honours Degree (often one-year courses are available at the University, or in some cases, another institution).

As a student on a University of Plymouth course, you have the same status as those studying on the University’s campus. You can access online University services, use its library, electronic resources and learning support materials through its web-based student portal (including information and support from its Employability Service) and receive vacancies via its job website. As a member of its Students’ Union (UPSU), you can access sports clubs, societies, the advice service, NUS Extra student discount card, volunteering opportunities, student representation and University sports facilities.
