Join us for taster sessions in all areas, get advice and guidance from our dedicated teams, meet our Principal, have a tour of our campus and facilities and meet our current students.


Courses and Activities

The teams from across the College will be available throughout the event to give demonstrations and hands on tasters of our wide range of courses.

Subject areas available to visit on the day include –

A Levels – come and tour our A-Level Academy and meet our knowledgeable staff and current students. Find out about all 18 different subjects that are available.
Adult – Maths and English GCSEs, Funding, Access courses – Pop along to our Helpzone to find out about all areas of Adult Learning and Information.
Adult Community Learning – Speak to the team about the wide range of short courses available in Paignton and Torquay from guitar for beginners to photography and modern foreign languages.
Adventure Sport – Find out about your chance to get involved with exciting outdoor adventures such as kayaking and climbing.
Animal Care – Visit our animal unit and learn all about how to care for animals including reptiles, goats, pigs and even meerkats.
Apprenticeships (all areas) – Speak to our Apprenticeship team about learning while you earn. Find out about our great employer contacts and how you can train in a variety of different vocations.
Art and Design – See an amazing display by the exciting Encounters Arts while you visit our Art and Design classrooms.
Automotive – See our full equipped workshop and learn how our staff and students service vehicles, spray paint bonnets and more.
Beauty – Visit our fully working salon and try out some beauty tricks and tips demonstrated by staff and students.
Brickwork – Visit our bricklaying court to meet staff and get hands on.
Business and Law – Visit our business and Law team outside the Greenhouse cafe and find out how studying a business course could support your future.
Carpentry – Get hands on and see if Carpentry is for you. Speak to staff to find out how we can support your career and enhance your learning.
Childcare – See our childcare classrooms and learn how to bath a baby and more.
Computing –  Get involved in an interactive masterclass that will allow you have an insight into essential programming skills in C++ and coding.
Construction – Visit our Construction Building to view facilities and discuss all aspects of trade with our knowledgeable staff.
Digital Media – See a demonstration of our Online Safety Course in our state of the art Fujitsu Hub.
Electrical – Find out how we can support your future career by visiting our construction building.
Engineering – Practical demonstrations in a real life manufacturing workshop including manual turning and milling, CNC programming and 3D Modelling and printing.
Fashion – See the work of our talented students and find out about how design and creation are a part of the fashion course here at the college.
Hairdressing and Barbering – come along to get involved in some braiding demos, see our staff and students demonstrate their skills and find out how you could learn them too.
Health and Social Care – Practice drawing blood and learn some basic first aid in our fully equipped Health and Social Care classrooms.
South Devon High School – visit our High School to meet staff and find out about our exciting rnage of GCSE subjects available for students aged 14 to 16.
Hospitality and Catering – Visit Horizons, our training restaurant to have a go at making an Irish Coffee and create your own mocktails before visiting our training kitchens to get involved in ‘Ready, Steady Pancakes’.
Horticulture – Meet our talented and green fingered team and find out about careers in Horticulture.
Learning Opportunities – Take a trip to our Learning Opportunities area to find out about support and guidance for all abilities.
Make-up – Visit Inspirations Salon for a make-up trial and see the techniques that are mastered by our talented staff and students.
Marine – Visit our Automotive workshop to meet our Marine Academy team, normally at their very own site on Dart Marina they are making an appearance at Vantage Point to show off their sea-safety and boat building expertise.
Motorcycle – Visit our Motorcycle team and learn about how this course can enhance your knowledge and skills.
Music – See a live band performance in the Theatre between 11-12 or speak to our team about the production, performance and more.
Nails – Visit Inspirations Salon to see the techniques that are mastered by our talented staff and students.
Painting and Decorating – Learn more about how you could perfect the art of Painting and Decorating and enhance your skills. Speak to our team about careers, qualifications and skills.
Performing Arts –  Speak to our staff about study in Theatre and Dance, opportunities to get involved in a variety of performance areas and get hands on backstage.
Photography – See our highly equipped Photography rooms and the work of our talented students.
Plastering – Come along to our Construction building to try your hand at Plastering. Speak to staff and find out about how to perfect the art of Plastering with our various courses.
Plumbing – Take a shuttle bus to our highly equipped South West Energy Centre and see our Plumbing facilities and meet current staff.
Professional Courses – Visit our Professional team, grab your complimentary cuppa and find out how to enhance your career.
Roofing – See our Roofing facilities and meet our current staff.
Science – Tour our labs and meet our current staff to learn about opportunitites to study forensics or become a lab technician.
Security – Meet our current Security students and hear all about their experiences on the job at events around the South West.
Sport and Fitness – tour our facilities including fully equipped gym, sports hall and studios and watch classes in action.
Travel and Tourism – meet our current students who will give you a tour of the Travel and Tourism classrooms, taking you on a virtual plane and giving you the chance to try out our virtual check-in desk.
Uniformed Public Services – come along to get hands on with command activities just like in military basic training.
University Centre South Devon (Degrees and Higher Level Apprenticeships) – workshops available in:

  • ‘Why Study Higher Education’ at 10am and 12pm
  • ‘Employability Focused Courses at UCSD’ at 10.20am and 12.20pm
  • Finance, Funding & Bursaries 10.40am and 12.40pm
  • ‘Supporting with your Studies at UCSD’ at 11.00am
  • Q & A with Student Ambassadors at 11.30am

Parking is available on site at the College and will be free of charge during this event. You can find us using our postcode with a satnav – TQ4 7EJ or by following the brown signs for the event from all main routes in to Paignton on the day.

Stagecoach South West will be providing a free bus service which will run between Paignton bus station and South Devon College for anyone who is attending our Open Event, please see the  timetable below –

Help and Advice

Along with curriculum staff our Helpzone team will be available throughout the event to offer advice and guidance on a wide range of support services including funding, transport, applications, enrolment and careers advice. Just look for anyone in a purple t-shirt!


Food and Refreshments

A number of our catering outlets will be open on the day offering a range of reasonably priced snacks, lunches and hot and cold beverages if you get peckish during your visit. All visitors will also be offered a free tea or coffee on arrival. If you have any special dietary requirements then please do let a member of catering staff know and they will do their best to assist you in finding an alternative
