By studying a career in youth work, you can help improve the lives of young people and make a real difference to their learning and their prospects. The Youth Work, Childhood and Social Sciences Level 2/3 course is the first year of a potential two year programme. This course is designed for people who wish to work in youth clubs or in youth justice with young offenders or disengaged young people. You could also progress to teaching young people in Pupil Referral Units.
The programme covers theories of youth work, society surrounding young people and community campaigning. It focuses on using activities to re-engage young people. You will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities, working alongside members of the College staff team.
In the first year you will gain three youth work and childhood development qualifications which include the: Level 2 Certificate in Progression in Youth and Childhood Studies, Level 3 Award in Community Campaigning and the Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
In the second year you will gain the National Youth Agency’s nationally recognised Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work Practice. Youth work can be challenging at times, so you’ll need to be dedicated and resilient. But, if you have a real passion for helping people and want to make a difference, this is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling careers imaginable.
“I have really enjoyed my time at the College, and have made some great friends whilst studying here. The tutors are really supportive and it's great that they have industry experience. Learning the fundamentals of programming has been a highlight for me.”Reece Tarrant
