Understanding Common Childhood Illnesses

The purpose of this qualification is to increase your knowledge and understanding of common childhood illnesses to enable you to support the development and wellbeing of infants and children you support/care for. You will explore different types of infection and how they are spread. You will gain knowledge of common childhood illnesses and how to recognise signs and symptoms when a child is unwell. You will explore a range of allergies and food intolerance as well as the purpose of immunisation. If you are aged 19 and over you may have options to help fund your studies with us. The funding you can receive depends on your personal circumstances, and could mean you are entitled to free or reduced course fees. You may also be entitled to support with travel, childcare and equipment. Kelly works as a Lecturer in Further education within the Society, Education and Development department, but mostly teaches across Childcare and Youth Studies qualifications. She has a PGCE in Post 16 Education and has a BA Honours degree in Child Development and Education. Before teaching, Kelly worked with children and young people in a variety of educational environments spanning over 7 years. Her passion lies in children’s learning and education in an outdoor environment and has a huge personal interest in children’s physical and mental health.Kelly Adams
