Sport, Fitness and Personal Training Extended Diploma Level 3
This qualification is designed for post 16 learners who have a genuine interest in the sport and fitness industry. The health and fitness industry is continuing to grow, with over 7000 gyms in the UK and more than 10 million members, which means almost one in seven people in the UK is a member of a gym (State of the UK Fitness Industry Report, The Leisure database, May 2019). The BTEC Level 3 Extended diploma in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training is 1080 guided learning hours and is equivalent in size to three A levels. Learners will explore the many segments of the sport, fitness and personal training industry, and develop a deep understanding of the role they can have within the sector.
Course Details
- You will need to have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4(C) or above, including Maths and English
The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with employers and professional bodies so that it is appropriate and consistent with current industry practice.
This qualification will has eight mandatory units:
Unit A: Careers in the Sports and Active Leisure Industry
Unit B: Health, Wellbeing and Sport
Unit C2: Fitness Skills Development
Unit D2: Personal Trainer Skills Development
Unit E: Research Project in Sport (Pearson-set)
Unit 2: Self-employment in Sport and Physical Activity
Unit 4: Nutrition for Physical Performance
Unit 21: Business and Technology in Personal Training
In addition, you will select four units from a range of options. This will allow you to specialise in areas that will support you in your role working with clients in the health and fitness industry. Areas include sporting injuries, sport tourism, corporate social responsibility and sports psychology
What specific Skills, Knowledge and behaviours will you develop?
This qualification provides the knowledge, and develops the skills and application required, for professional accreditation with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) and the Chartered Institute of Management for Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer standards. You will develop deep knowledge of all the key training principle and the theory behind these, and an in depth understanding of a wide range of training methods. You will learn about the role of a PT, and the impact you can have on peoples health and wellbeing. Alongside the core knowledge, you will develop key skills such as confidence, communication skills and time management.
Progression opportunities
The qualification is intended for post-16 learners who wish to progress to employment in the Sport and Fitness sector as a personal trainer but whose aspirations may also be to enter higher education.
