Seafish Basic Health and Safety
The one-day Seafish Basic Health and Safety course aims to provide new entrants to the commercial fishing industry with the knowledge and skills required to work safely onboard a commercial fishing vessel.
The course covers basic health and safety issues and safety practices in a dangerous working environment, safety equipment/clothing and guidelines on accident prevention. This course will also highlight your understanding to orders and onboard communications. It also includes an understanding of the language used in the industry, individual roles and responsibilities, the dangers of the job and which skills are required to operate safely on board.
Candidates are assessed throughout the course and sit a multiple-choice paper in the final session. Successful candidates are awarded the Seafish Authority Basic Health and Safety Certificate.
The course is delivered via a combination of lectures, films, and demonstrations, and is being held at a local venue for practical assessment.

“I really enjoyed studying Health and Social Care. You're treated as an adult at the College and the tutors get to know you on a personal level, they are really supportive and their knowledge is invaluable. I felt as though I grew as a person during my time there, which is so important."Caitlyn Crofts
