Onsite Construction: Carpentry and Joinery T Level
This T Level is a two year qualification developed in collaboration with employers and businesses. The course is for 16-18 year old students in preparation for entering the industry and will create a pathway for progression to either employment, an apprenticeship or the opportunity to progress to higher education courses and training.
A mandatory part of the course is the 315 hour industry placement which enables you to showcase your classroom skills and develop real onsite experience with an employer.
To achieve this T Level qualification, you must achieve the two components of the Technical qualification, the core component and the occupational specialisms and also complete the industry placement.
The core content is the industry knowledge and skills, giving you a broad understanding of the industry and roles within it. At the same time, it will develop the soft skills you will need to meet employer expectations within the industry. The assessment will consist of two externally set exams and an employer set project which will be graded A* to E.
The occupational specialisms develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary to achieve the required occupational competency to work in the trade. You must also demonstrate the ability to consistently achieve over time with the correct support and training. The occupational specialisms will be assessed through an externally set assignment and will be graded pass, merit or distinction.
T Level qualifications are equivalent to studying 3 A Levels and carries up to 168 UCAS points, so you could progress to a university degree rather than immediately entering the workforce.
- You must have a GCSE Grade 4(C) in English
- You must have a GCSE Grade 4(C) in Maths
- You must have completed an appropriate vocational qualification at Level 2
- Ideally, you will have achieved a grade 4 (C) in Science
Fundamental Health and Safety practices associated with carrying out construction work
Principles of sustainability, design and planning relevant to construction projects
Produce complex timber-based structures
Fix and assemble complex timber-based products and components
Install complex timber-based products into complex structures
Essential workplace knowledge, skills and behaviours developed on a working site
