Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Technician Diploma Level 1
If you can’t get enough of cars and have your sights set on becoming a mechanic, then this is the course for you. Available at either Paignton or Newton Abbot, this is your first step into the automotive industry.
The first thing you’ll notice about this course is that it’s about practical learning – you’ll be spending a lot of time in our workshop, learning by doing as you work on a range of cars and vehicles. You’ll be looking at everything: engines, tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, transmission, and electronics. Basically, if it’s in a car, you’ll be studying it and developing all of the essential skills you need as a mechanic, carrying out maintenance and repair activities as you progress through the course.
Our workshop features industrystandard equipment and kit, exactly like a working garage. We also have a strong partnership with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), so employers know an automotive qualification from South Devon College means you have the very best skills as a mechanic or technician. So, if you’re a bit of a petrol head and want a career working with cars and vehicles, this is the best place to start.
As a Level 1 course, this diploma is all about introducing you to the automotive industry and developing your essential skills. You’ll be learning from experienced automotive professionals and mechanics, who are there to give you the very best start to your career.
Once you’ve finished the Level 1 course, you’ll have a real understanding of light vehicle maintenance and repair and be ready to move on to the more advanced Level 2 and 3 courses. We also offer apprenticeships across the automotive industry, so if you want to earn while you learn, then you can consider that option.
