Learning Mentor

This apprenticeship has been designed to be taken by anyone wanting to work as a mentor who will offer advice and guidance to individuals working in their sector of expertise. The learning mentor is ‘grounded’ in up-to-date processes and procedures, relevant to the students programme of development. The role could be considered to be a first step towards a secondary role as an education and training professional. The apprentice must have a strong aspiration to support students and a qualification, at an appropriate level, in the vocational/subject specialism.

Entry requirements will be set by individual employers. They may include:

• A strong aspiration to support students
• (As a dual-professional) a qualification, at an appropriate level in your vocational/subject specialism
• Recent experience and knowledge relevant to the context of the mentoring role (e.g. current industry standards)
• Maths, English and ICT skills at Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above) prior to commencing your training. Those that have not achieved this, you must complete the qualifications prior to taking the end-point assessment

What will I learn?

Katy has worked in secondary schools (private and public), further education (FE) and higher education (HE) environments and is qualified with a PGCE in Secondary Physical Education, QTS and QTLS. She holds a Master’s in Education and is studying for her Professional Doctorate in Education with a specialism in outdoor education. She has taught for over 10 years and developed and managed FE and HE programmes with a wide range of experience teaching across a large range of levels. She is passionate about education and supporting teachers and educators to be the best they can.Katy Joy
