Our A Level Law course is designed to encourage and engage students to sustain their interest and enjoyment in law, and enable them to develop their analytical and critical thinking skills. Studying Law enhances problem solving skills through the application of legal rules, together with an understanding of legal method and reasoning. These skills provide excellent preparation for those students who wish to progress to degree level study or pursue a wide range of careers.
A-level law is a fascinating subject which covers many aspects of life; equipping the student with a range of skills and knowledge which will support further study and/or employment.
The delivery of the course is supported by visits from legal professionals and universities in addition to visits to court and other places of interest.
A-level law is an excellent introduction to studying law at university, a legal apprenticeship or training as a Chartered Legal Executive.
In addition to progressing to careers as solicitors or barristers, A-level law students may also progress to careers in criminology, policing, business, politics and teaching.
Former students have secured places at some of our top universities and have progressed to a career in law.
Entry Requirements: a minimum of five GCSE passes (grade 4 or higher) including Maths. Additionally, grade 6 in English or a Humanities subject.
Studying A Level Law at South Devon College helped me decide what I wanted to do as a career, and therefore what I wanted to study at university. We benefited hugely from termly trips, and we even shadowed a judge, which gave me a huge insight into what my future career could entail. My teacher, Kay Harding, is excellent, and went above and beyond in helping me revise, improve exam technique and keep me up to date on current legal affairs. She was also great at giving me advice even outside of College time.Callum Priestley
