Introduction to Autism Level 1

The Introduction to Autism, is a classroom-based course held at South Devon College’s Paignton campus, once a week for 4 weeks.

This course is designed to give you an overview of what autism is, how this impacts on daily life, and how best to support an individual with autism.

Run by passionate teachers with autism experience, we are keen to support raising awareness of autism in the community, and particularly to support parents of individuals with autism. Therefore, we are delighted to offer this course for the fee of £10.

There are no entry requirements for this course, other than a genuine interest in this subject, however you must be aged 19 years or over. At the end of the course you will receive a Level 1 Introduction to Autism South Devon College certificate.

Courses you could progress on to include: Level 2 Understanding Autism, Level 2 Understanding Common Childhood Illnesses, Level 2 Child Development, Level 3 Understanding Autism, Level 3 SENCO in Early Years, Level 3 Teaching Assistants, and Level 3 Early Years Workforce.

Jo has worked in the childcare industry for over 20 years, as a private nanny and a nursery manager, before attending university to train as a teacher. She specialises in Understanding Autism, and her teaching comes from current literature and her own story within this subject. Jo has also completed a Masters degree in Childhood and Early Years and her work on Forest Schools has been published in the International Journal of Play. She is a lecturer on the Early Years degree, a teacher in South Devon High School, and is the programme coordinator for the adult courses in Early Years, Autism and Forest School.Jo Button
