Introducing Caring for Children (Distance Learning)

This fully subsidised distance learning course introduces you to children’s development and the importance of play for early learning and can be completed in the comfort of your own home. You will learn how to safeguard the welfare of children and young people and how to support growth through a healthy diet and nutrition. You will also develop your knowledge of interaction and activities which encourage children to communicate with others around them. This course is suitable for those who wish to work with young children or parents with young children of their own.
The recommended time to complete the course is 16 – 20 weeks.
You will have access to a personal tutor, and all the materials you need to complete the course. If you are aged 19 and over you may have options to help fund your studies with us. The funding you can receive depends on your personal circumstances, and could mean you are entitled to free or reduced course fees. You may also be entitled to support with travel, childcare and equipment. 19+ Courses marked may entitle you to an Advanced Learning Loan to help fund your studies, available for learners aged 19 or over.

Sally used to work for a childcare company as an area manager for the South West region, managing multiple private day nurseries and associated teams of practitioners. She's passionate about delivering training regarding provision for the most vulnerable of children, those on the edge of care, ‘looked after children’, and those who have experienced adverse childhood experiences. She holds a level 5 qualification in Leadership & Management and has now been working at South Devon College since 2017 as a childcare and education lecturer, working across High School, Further Education and adult courses.Sally Squires
