Infection Control Entry Level
Infection control is a critical aspect of healthcare that aims to prevent the spread of infections within medical facilities and the community. An Infection Control Awareness Course is designed to educate healthcare professionals, support staff, and even patients about the importance of hygiene practices, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and protocols for handling infectious materials.
If you are aged 16+ and live in or support residents in the TQ1 to TQ5 Torbay Council postcode area, then you may be eligible to have this course funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). Course Details
- You should have a genuine interest in this subject
- You must be working in the sector or interested in working in the sector in the future. You can also be supporting friends and family or working in volunteering sector.
Hygiene Practices: Emphasis is placed on hand hygiene, including the proper techniques for handwashing and the use of hand sanitizers. This is crucial as hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to prevent infection.
Use of PPE: The course provides guidance on selecting and using appropriate PPE, such as gloves, masks, and gowns, to protect both healthcare workers and patients.
Environmental Cleaning: Participants learn about the importance of maintaining a clean environment, including the proper cleaning and disinfection of surfaces and equipment.
Reporting and Response: The course also covers protocols for reporting infections and responding to outbreaks, ensuring that all staff are prepared to act swiftly and effectively.
Understanding Infections: Participants learn about various types of infections, their transmission routes, and the impact of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) on patient outcomes.

I’ve recently completed my Level 5 HR Consultant Partner Apprenticeship at South Devon College and have enjoyed every minute! South Devon College has provided me with the tools and resources I needed to complete the course. My tutor and colleagues were extremely supportive and created an open environment to encourage participation and the sharing of ideas! Doing an apprenticeship has allowed me to apply knowledge that I’ve learnt during the course into real life situations.
