Hearing Aid Dispenser (Higher Level)

This higher apprenticeship is an innovative programme boasting exclusive connections with its placement environments, enabling access to a range of real-life situations in both clinical and community environments as well as access to simulation suites. You will also enrol onto the FdSc Hearing Aid Audiology at University Centre South Devon. This embedded work-based programme will provide a challenging balance between the development of core skills and professional practice required by Hearing Aid Audiologists who have knowledge in basic sciences, medical aspects of audiology, audiological techniques, hearing advice and rehabilitation. Audiology is an exciting career with many avenues for employment and specialisation. It involves both a strong scientific interest and aptitude with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, oral as well as written. Successful completion of the Foundation Degree Hearing Aid Audiology programme provides eligibility to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Hearing Aid Dispenser.
To apply for this course, we require a GCSE English and maths Level 2 (GCSE 4 or equivalent) and 48 UCAS points from a level three qualification, or appropriate industry experience for those who may not hold a Level 3 qualification.
There is a two-stage interview process, which involves representation from local Healthcare providers, where you are required to demonstrate the necessary motivation, potential, experience and/or knowledge to follow your chosen programme successfully. As you will be working with the public you will be required to complete an online enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to the start of the academic term and this must be renewed as required throughout the duration of the course. An enhanced DBS check covers all previous convictions, including spent ones.

What will I learn?

My time at South Devon College really helped me excel and realise my potential in the construction industry. There are more options and career paths in construction than I first thought. I started as a carpentry apprentice and I am now training with my employer to become a Site Manager. It's a great industry to get into offering huge variety, and we have a lot of fun along the way too.Ricky Collyer
