Health and Social Care Foundation Diploma/Extended Diploma Level 3

This two year Health and Social Care course develops the advanced academic and practical skills required to excel in the Health and Social Care sector, gaining valuable transferable skills across a range of topics.

The Foundation Diploma forms the first year of the Level 3 Extended Diploma also offered at South Devon College with opportunities to progress into vocationally specific degree pathways through both University Centre South Devon and the wider higher education community or to employment.

The aim of the course is to give you the opportunity to explore and access the wider health and care sector area and to support this transition to working in health and care you will be exposed to a range of opportunities including healthcare professional led training scenarios in our fully functioning skills suite alongside classroom based sessions. You will also complete up to 370 hours within a vocational work placement each year, where you will develop practical skills related to working within the care sector. Your placement hours form part of your final grade alongside a range of assessments.

We work closely with a number of employers to ensure we are current in practice and this can in turn support you in gaining part time employment that can also support your future progression options for you, where you can demonstrate your skills and ability as a health care professional.

If you aim to access higher level study, successful completion of the 2 year programme can enable you to gain up to 168 UCAS points and a range of job role pathways will welcome this programme, for example Assistant Practitioner, Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Operational Department Practitioner and Podiatry to name but a few across our sector area.

Enhanced care work students.

“I really enjoyed studying Health and Social Care. You're treated as an adult at the College and the tutors get to know you on a personal level, they are really supportive and their knowledge is invaluable. I felt as though I grew as a person during my time there, which is so important."Caitlyn Crofts
