Gym Instructor Practical

This qualification is the practical element of the full Gym Instructor qualification for candidates wishing to work in the health and fitness industry. To qualify as a Gym Instructor it is required that you pass the level 2 Fitness Instructor Theory Mandatory Units. On completion you will be qualified to work as a freelance self-employed gym instructor or at a health, leisure and fitness centre, or you may go on to complete the Level 3 Personal Trainer certificate. The course is offered at both South Devon College and Newton Abbot Leisure Centre and is available in the afternoon, evenings, or as an intensive short course.

The units covered are:

1. How to plan and teach safe and effective exercise sessions
2. The principles of training
3. How to adapt exercise to suit varied fitness levels
4. How to use a range of teaching skills
5. The body’s systems and its responses to exercise
6. Health and safety factors
7. How to motivate and support clients.
