Forensic Science

This 2 year course is perfect for you if you are considering a career in forensics. You will develop your forensic science knowledge and learn practical skills to enable you to apply them to a range of real-life settings and work places. You will study a variety of modules relating to Forensic science such as Evidence Collection and Analysis, Genetics and Investigation Skills. You will be taught practical skills in our well-equipped, modern laboratories. Most of the qualification is assessed by coursework such as writing reports or designing posters; there are also external exams for some of the units. Teaching will look at real-life case studies and incidents wherever possible. This course will enable students to progress onto an undergraduate degree (it is equivalent to studying 3 A levels) or further professional qualifications in a wide range of Science based/related areas. At South Devon College you could progress onto one of our Science-based Foundation Degrees – Bioscience, Marine Science or Animal Science and even top up to a BSc. You could also progress into employment with opportunities such as working as a Forensic Analyst, Crime Scene Investigator, Trainee Police Officer or DNA Research Assistant.

"Studying at the University Centre South Devon also means a greater and more personal level of support from tutors, which really helps.  The animal unit at UCSD is fantastic, and enables you to gain a lot of relevant experience."Eisha Miah
