Extended Science (Year 0)

For September 2018 entry only

This course is designed to assist you in progressing to university-level study in a scientific field, and is relevant to students from a variety of backgrounds.

The course is suitable for those wishing to change form a non-scientific background, improve their current scientific qualification or build upon previous professional experience.

You will choose two subjects from Biology, Chemistry and Physics to study throughout the year, alongside a compulsory mathematics module. The modules you explore will be essential for your future studies, and prepare you well for progression to a Foundation Degree or full Honours Degree, as appropriate.

If you are considering starting your studies in September 2017, an Access course could be the best solution to prepare you for university level study. An Access course can be completed in 1 year, and we offer a bespoke pathway preparing you for Science related degrees. An Access course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and gives you the opportunity to gain UCAS points. Contact us today to find out more.

Potential Job Roles

"I took my GCSEs and A Levels and was one of the first graduates on the Extended Science programme. I went on to achieve a First Class Honours in my BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences degree at Plymouth University, which I could not have achieved without the University Centre South Devon. With the support of UCSD, I felt as though there wasn't anything I couldn't achieve. Since graduating, I completed my PGCE at Plymouth University and had my placement with UCSD. My time here undoubtedly changed my life and my family's. I would like to thank my tutor for not just introducing me to the world of science, but also for giving me the confidence to continue my studies and succeed, and for providing me with a means of going to university."Kellie Collier
