The Diploma in Education and Training (DET) Level 5 is a teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement. It is an ‘in service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers in England. It may be possible for pre-service teachers/trainers (defined as those who are not formally contracted as teachers/trainers) to also complete this qualification.
Whether pre-service or in-service, you must have access to 100 hours of teaching, possess reasonable levels of language, literacy and numeracy, and should be qualified/ experienced in the subject you intend to teach.
The course runs over one year, attendance requirement is one full day per week, and depending on existing qualifications, you may well attract the Government Bursary Scheme. You will be required to attend an interview as part of the application process.
This course is approved by Student Finance England, therefore you can apply for funding support (subject to eligibility).

“The Public Services course at the College sparked my passion to become a Royal Air Force Physical Education/Training Officer. I gained a comprehensive insight into what it means to join each public service – due to the level of engagement and trips we experienced with each force. The support and encouragement from the staff was excellent; it gave me the room to fail and grow as many times as I needed and the motivation I needed to succeed.”Lewis Ray
