This apprenticeship is split into three pathways based on the specific job role – digital printing (Printer, digital printer), digital pre-press and digital artwork (desktop publisher, graphic designer, print designer, pre-press manager).
The Digital Pre-Press (Artwork, Design, Digital printing) Level 3 is aimed at those who will be capable of working without direct supervisions – producing creative artwork, maintaining digital systems, running equipment and controlling output and quality.
To underpin this process and provide a broader knowledge of the industry you will study a Technical Certificate covering; Health and Safety, Personal Development, Industry Overview, Employment Rights and Responsibilities, Preparing/Creating Digital Colour Artwork For Print, Preparing Stencils, Making Plates for Lithographic Printing, Improving Individual and Organisational Performance and more.
"I previously worked in the automotive industry, but was always very creative and was considering a career change, potentially working in marketing roles with digital technologies. I've had a really good experience at the UCSD; the facilities and resources are excellent, and the support of the tutors is invaluable. I've been able to work on live projects set by employers, such as Living Coasts, which has been incredibly beneficial. I've been able to see the business and commercial aspect of work, and it's been a chance to apply my knowledge and develop my vocational skills. When I complete my Foundation Degree I intend to enter employment for 2 to 3 years, working in web or graphic design, before then completing a top-up year and returning to industry."Ben Young
