Core maths is a two year AS programme designed for learners who would like to continue to study maths until they are 18 but do not want to study A-level maths or have achieved a C grade at GCSE. Core Maths is about students doing meaningful mathematical problems to increase their confidence in using maths and to be better equipped for the mathematical demands of other courses, higher education, employment and life. The course covers everyday maths such as Tax, National Insurance and student loans and how to use statistical data to make decisions. Students studying Core Maths have found it has given them confidence in using Maths in their other courses.
“I joined the College to study GCSEs, including Chemistry, English and Maths. I wanted to work in veterinary science, so I then progressed to a range of science-based A Levels, and after gaining A grades in all subjects, I was able to continue onto a Veterinary Science degree at Cambridge University. I can now look forward to a career in something I’m passionate about, and I can’t wait to get started.”James Hawkesby
