Computer Science A Level
A Level Computer Science is an exciting and challenging course offered at South Devon College. The course is for students who have an interest in how computers work and want to learn how to program and is particularly appropriate for students who also have good skills in Maths. It makes an excellent companion subject to A Level Mathematics and dovetails beautifully with A Level Further Mathematics. The college has excellent computing facilities and highly experienced staff to support you in this choice of subject.
- You will need to have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4(C) or above including English or equivalent
- Grade 6 in maths or Computer Science.

Abstract thinking, mathematical reasoning and problem solving
The 3 main programming paradigms: Procedural, Object-oriented and Declarative
How computers store and process different kinds of data
How operating systems are designed and how to write assembly language
The fundamentals of computer organisation and architecture
The principles behind networking and data transmission
