A Level 3 Composites Technician apprenticeship lasts three years. Composites manufacture is the combining of materials to form a lighter and stronger rigid structure as an alternative to metal. These lightweight rigid structures are essential in the marine sector with all Princess Yachts constructed from composite materials. As a Composites Technician you will be engaged in a variety of processes in the production and creation of materials and components. During this course you will gain specialised knowledge and skills that support manufacturing programmes and projects, and may be deployed in areas of design, tooling, moulding, lay-up, curing, machining, inspection, testing, repair and material production. This will be under the support and guidance of both Princess Yachts and South Devon Marine Academy. If you are a first year apprentice you will attend College four days per week, and as a second year apprentice you will attend College one day per week.
“My goal is to become a marine engineer, and my course has improved my career prospects as well as providing many memorable experiences. I've driven a powerboat and worked on the engine of Aspiration, the College’s 38ft yacht, amongst many others; all great experience for employment.” Leanne Cole
