This apprenticeship is an exciting opportunity for businesses, schools, leisure centres, active leisure and sport clubs or community services to develop a current member of staff or a new recruit, who will focus on developing new opportunities to engage people in behaviour change through sport and physical activity.
The apprentice will learn how to identify two projects of engaging and innovative sport or physical activity that they will set up, deliver and evaluate. The projects should aim to initiate meaningful behaviour change in their target groups.
They will source and use customer insights to design the programme of intervention and behaviour change. By identifying social barriers and personal motivations of customers, the apprentice can create clear objectives and measures of success.
They will consult with the local community and individuals by setting up focus groups and meetings. Your apprentice will also link with county sport partnerships or National Governing Bodies to create a programme to take to the market.
As a Community Sport and Health Officer, they will research the funding landscape or sport, physical activity, community regeneration, addressing anti-social behaviour and public health. They will also make at least one funding application from a charity or funding body best suited to the programme requirements.
Your apprentice will work with internal and external clients, producing and distributing clear and effective written and verbal information through digital marketing. They will complete a social media and digital innovation workshop to ensure they understand how to use IT to promote, monitor and evaluate a programme and measure its impact.
They will plan the strategy and tactics to empower target groups and individuals (from hard to reach, inactive populations) to take up and sustain physical activity. They should consider a range of approaches to support engagement, manage disruptive behaviour and deliver feedback.
Your apprentice will deliver programmes of selected activity to align with different customers, facilitating communities to come together to achieve positive change. They should ensure the programme is inclusive, customer focused and accessible.
They will evaluate their projects and the delivery, engagement and ultimate success of the programmes, and make recommendations for next steps.
Extra qualifications can be added to suit your requirements as an organisation, for example certificates in Leisure Management or Fitness Instructing, or a range of workshops including stability training, outdoor exercise and yoga stretch. Your apprentice will have the opportunity to achieve a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths if this has not been completed previously.
"I previously worked in the automotive industry, but was always very creative and was considering a career change, potentially working in marketing roles with digital technologies. I've had a really good experience at the UCSD; the facilities and resources are excellent, and the support of the tutors is invaluable. I've been able to work on live projects set by employers, such as Living Coasts, which has been incredibly beneficial. I've been able to see the business and commercial aspect of work, and it's been a chance to apply my knowledge and develop my vocational skills. When I complete my Foundation Degree I intend to enter employment for 2 to 3 years, working in web or graphic design, before then completing a top-up year and returning to industry."Ben Young
