"Whilst I was studying my degree I was working as a healthcare assistant, and was able to apply the skills and knowledge I acquired in a vocational setting, whilst developing and building upon my professional experience. I went on to receive a WorldSkills UK Gold Medal in Advanced Caring, which was a great honour, both personally and professionally. I was judged alongside a field of competitors from throughout the United Kingdom, with us all competing in our chosen skill. The final pressure test called for a wide range of skills to be demonstrated through practical tasks caring for patients (who were played by actresses) in difficult scenarios. I was honoured to receive the Gold Medal, which recognised the hard work and dedication I put in during my studies. The skills I developed at University Centre South Devon helped me to succeed, and have increased my employment opportunities and prospects."Rameez Shah
