This qualification develops the skills, knowledge and competence required of an individual to work in an unsupervised capacity with older frailer adults and disabled adults, to plan and deliver chair–based exercise. On completion you will be able to work in many facilities such as nursing homes, care homes and in community groups. This course is delivered over four weeks. The October course does not run 28/10/17.
You will study the theory and practice of health related fitness exercises and how to deliver activity sessions suitable for frailer older clients and disabled adults, covering the following:
1. The main physiological changes that occur to the body systems as a result of the ageing process
2. Screening tests that can be used to determine readiness to exercise for older people and disabled people
3. The referral routes available for people unable to exercise
4. How to deliver a safe and effective prescribed programme of chair-based exercise to older frailer adults and disabled adults
To enrol on this course you need no other qualifications. There is no pre-requisite for this course; however a background in either working with the target groups in adult social care or fitness instructing will be beneficial.

"There were many memorable moments on the course, my favourite being when a course mate and I organised a trip to the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Sports Science Conference at Portsmouth University, which was really valuable. The course provides both theoretical and practical knowledge, making it excellent preparation for a career, whether that's in sports or in any other field."Alec Phillips
