Award in Education and Training (AET)

The qualification aims to support you to reflect on your own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills, and areas for development. Identify principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation. Develop confidence, communication and inter-personal skills, as well as developing an awareness of your professional role and responsibilities.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but you must be considering a subject for delivery and have a qualification in your subject/skill. You should possess reasonable levels of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. You will need to complete an online initial assessment in English, maths and ICT prior to the course.

Do I need to be teaching already?

A teaching placement is not required; the teaching element of the course is provided by the delivery of a micro teach.

What is the duration of the course?

The course is 5 days if completed during the day, or 10 three-hour sessions if completed in the evening.

How will I be assessed?

Completion of assessment portfolio online through Moodle – instruction given in first session. Assessed micro teach with assessor present as part of the course or via video upload.

If you are aged 19 and over you may have options to help fund your studies with us. The funding you can receive depends on your personal circumstances, and could mean you are entitled to free or reduced course fees. You may also be entitled to support with travel, childcare and equipment. What will I learn?

Katy has worked in secondary schools (private and public), further education (FE) and higher education (HE) environments and is qualified with a PGCE in Secondary Physical Education, QTS and QTLS. She holds a Master’s in Education and is studying for her Professional Doctorate in Education with a specialism in outdoor education. She has taught for over 10 years and developed and managed FE and HE programmes with a wide range of experience teaching across a large range of levels.
