Applied Science National Extended Diploma Level 3

A career in science is full of possibilities, studying the world around us to increase our understanding of it and, potentially, improve lives all over the globe. It’s a fascinating career that could take you all over the world, and your first step starts here.

This two-year course is right for you if you are considering a career in science and want to study all of the science disciplines rather than specialising in one subject. This qualification will help your develop scientific knowledge and refine your practical skills to enable you to apply them to a range of reallife settings and work places.

You will study a variety of modules relating to Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science. You will be taught practical skills in our well-equipped, modern laboratories. Most of the qualification is assessed by coursework such as writing reports or designing posters; there are also external exams for some of the units.

This course is equivalent to studying three A Levels and will give you the opportunity to apply for an undergraduate degree or further professional qualifications in a wide range of Science based/related areas. You could progress onto one of the Science-based foundation degrees at University Centre South Devon Bioscience (accredited by the Royal Society of Biology) or Animal Science and even topup to a Bachelor’s degree.

There are apprenticeship opportunities available at Level 3 and Level 5. You could also progress into employment with opportunities such as working in laboratories as a researcher or technician.

As part of our Sixth Form offer, you are able to add A Levels to your study package. Click here to find out more.
