Access to Higher Education Diploma: Science Pathway (Part-time)
This part time Access to HE Diploma takes two years to complete, attending on one day a week. In the first year, you will take the first 10 Units listed below. These develop your study skills and introduce you to topics in Biology and Chemistry. In the second year, you will complete the remaining 10 Units and you will also be supported through your UCAS application.
The course is suitable for those wishing to progress to the wide range of degrees in the Biology or Chemistry sector, such as Biomedical Science, Genetics, Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Chemistry or teaching. It is also appropriate for competitive degrees in the Health sector including Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Midwifery, Pharmacy, or Dental Hygiene and Therapy.
You should have a GCSE grade 4 in English and/or Mathematics. It is possible to take one or the other during your time on the Access to HE Diploma, as an evening class. Check the entry requirements of your chosen progression route as some courses will ask for grade 5 in Maths and English or for an additional GCSE, which is often a science subject. The College offers an evening class in Biology to fill this need.
• It is desirable if you have a clear idea of the university course that you would like to apply for.
• Please check your HE institute choice/s for their entry requirements.
• Both maths and English GCSE grade 4 (or equivalent) are required for all Access Diplomas (exceptions will be considered if you do not need this criteria in order to progress to your selected Higher Education Institute).

"I left the army in August 2016 after serving as a front-line medic for 7 years. I decided to visit the college to explore my options as I knew I wanted to pursue a career as a vet. I chose to study an Access to Higher Education course with pathways in Chemistry, Biology and Applied Science - alongside my GCSE maths and English. The staff at the college have been very supportive. Their industry experience and depth of knowledge has been invaluable to my journey. I recently had an interview at the University of Bristol and was offered a place at the School of Veterinary Sciences – one of only 6 in the UK. The college provided me with a stepping stone to my desired career."Rebecca Williams
