Academic Professionals work within the higher education (HE) sector delivering higher education teaching and undertaking research to support the development of knowledge within their discipline. They may work in Universities, Colleges or the Private Sector, in the primary role of developing and sharing knowledge with students, peers and external stakeholders to support advancement of the discipline and the resolution of major challenges. Academic Professionals play an active role in supporting a range of people including students, funders, stakeholders and government to gain insight into their specialist discipline area. Academic Professionals engage in continuing professional development in both their discipline and their pedagogy and make use of appropriate technologies to support the acquisition of knowledge.This apprenticeship is suitable for those who are teaching higher education and wanting to develop their pedagogical practice and research skills. There are two pathways; the teaching or research.
Duration: 18 Months
Delivery: One day a week
• GCSE maths and English at grade 4 or above (or equivalent)
• Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, or equivalent
• Level 5 Foundation Degree
• Level 6 Batchelor’s Degree
• Level 7 Postgraduate certificate or above
Katy has worked in secondary schools (private and public), further education (FE) and higher education (HE) environments and is qualified with a PGCE in Secondary Physical Education, QTS and QTLS. She holds a Master’s in Education and is studying for her Professional Doctorate in Education with a specialism in outdoor education. She has taught for over 10 years and developed and managed FE and HE programmes with a wide range of experience teaching across a large range of levels.
