Multiply

Does the thought of needing to do maths at work or at home make you anxious? Multiply is a new government-funded programme offering free and easy to access courses and initiatives to help adults improve their numeracy skills. Take your next step today and find courses and support to help.

Whether you need to get better at managing your bills, budgeting or you want to improve your potential at work – the government’s free Multiply programme can help you. Take the Multiply quiz to find out what courses and initiatives can help you today.

If you’re aged 19 and over and don’t have maths GCSE at grade C (or equivalent), you can access free numeracy courses through Multiply to build your confidence with numbers and gain a qualification.

Good numeracy skills may unlock job opportunities and lead to higher wages or prepare you for further study. They also help in everyday life, such as helping children with homework and budgeting money.

There are courses for beginners to more advanced courses such as GCSE Maths, Functional Skills Qualifications, or equivalent, so you will be able to learn at a pace that suits you.

South Devon College are pleased to offer the ‘Make it with Maths’ suite of courses as part of the Multiply programme. More information about each of the courses in this suite is available below.

How to apply:

Multiply will be launching this year. In the meantime, you can explore ways to improve your skills, or take our short quiz which can help you understand where you might want to brush up on your numbers.

Make it with Maths

Mindful Mandalas

Mandala, a circular figure representing the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism, are a Mindful and creative outlet.

Using varied materials such as paint and pens you will make different patterns and design following geometric circles.

You will learn the skill of painting mandala Stones, through tuition and peer support, exploring your creative side to produce a unique pebble.

  • Gain Knowledge of Mandala design
  • Explore different Mathematical geometric pattens
  • Produce a finished bespoke pebble/stone
Wet Felt Making

Wet felt making is a craft that combines wool fibres to create a bespoke piece of artwork, Positive links between tactile, low-tech craft, and mental wellbeing are clear, your self-confidence and self-belief that you can achieve improves when participating in a creative craft. 

You will learn the skill of wet felting through tuition and peer support, exploring your creative side to produce a finished piece of felt, which can then be personalised with embellishment.

  • Gain knowledge of ratios and measurement
  • Explore natural wool samples and fibres
  • Produce a piece of artwork unique to you
