'Knowledge Transfer Partnerships' is Europe's leading programme helping local businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside in further education colleges, higher education Iistitutions or research organisations.

At the core of each Knowledge Transfer Partnership is a relationship between a company and an academic in a Knowledge Base organisation. The academics apply their expertise to support a strategic project that is central to the development of the Company Partner. In the process, staff in the Knowledge Base Partner are able to enhance the business relevance of their academic work.

Each Partnership involves a team of senior staff members from both the Knowledge Base Partner and the Company Partners and a recently qualified graduate recruited as a KTP Associate working in the business.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships have three core aims:

  • To enhance the business relevance of the Knowledge Base Partner's work
  • To improve the competitiveness of the Company Partner
  • To enhance the career prospects of the graduate

Partnerships can cover any fundamental area within a company where an injection of expertise and fresh forward thinking is needed. Such aspects include:

  • Development of new markets
  • Applying technology to processes
  • Developing business strategies
