Access to Community Education (ACE) is a registered charity for physically disabled adults, providing support so that they can access educational activities. Funds raised provide subsidised places on courses, taxi fares, trips and events; it also provides some specialist equipment.

ACE members pay a subscription of £5 per annum. Those who wish to join are invited to come along to an assessment session to make sure that their individual needs can be met and that the support they require is available.

Members can choose from a variety of ACE courses, which are by run by South Devon College’s Adult & Community Learning staff. Subjects vary term by term but currently include swimming, pottery, cookery, creative writing and gardening, tending the ACE garden. There is also a Thursday Group, which has a termly programme of speakers and activities in the mornings followed by lunch. The ACE administrator works with learners to decide which course(s) are the most suitable and to assess the support required. Each course or activity is supported by Care Workers and volunteers. ACE membership can provide some respite time for carers or provide an opportunity to do something together.

ACE is a long established charity that is supported by South Devon College. It is housed within the Adult & Community Learning Centre at Brixham College, which has ample disabled parking at the Westover Close entrance, good access and disabled toilets. ACE members receive copies of the annual prospectus and termly updates each year. These contain details of all ACL courses, including those designated especially for ACE.

Donations to ACE are always needed and always welcome! If you would like to help please contact the ACE fundraiser Robert Boyd on:
